Remorse Chapter 3: Homecommings and Comfort
Winter, oh how he loathed the season, the brumal absinthian air commanding it’s way though to the cold secluded night, daring anyone to approach; endear it’s wrath like that of a general adjuring his troops to the harshness of battle. Preying only on the weak and senile of sorts, the most brilliant of endearments, versatile, seemingly without end; making it forthcoming without weakness; yet as some of the most ingenious of minds have clearly stated the seeds to ones destruction are sown within the self. And so it arises; warmth; perpetual glory at it’s best barraging through the muggy silence a heart at core in the mist of its own invalidation: spring. Even so Shawn was glad to now be within the shelter of his own apartment building no longer caught within the crossfire of winter’s grasp. It really was getting rather stormy out there, the city of Salem, virtually shutting down as roads were closed due to snow and all Valentines Day activities cancelled, a perfect night to just curl up in front of the television and watch a movie. He had however managed to find a florist that was still open before the bulk of the storm had hit, purchasing a dozen fully blossomed claret roses for his one true love. To think just yesterday Shawn was basking in the sun on a beautiful beach with temperatures in the mid 80’s the sent of sun screen lacing the air, but all that meant nothing to him when he could be with Belle on Valentines Day, Los Angeles would always be there so after this was all over what was saying Shawn couldn’t gladly take the jet and enjoy a nice relaxing vacation with his love.
The assent to the 5th floor apartment that Shawn and Rex now shared was a rapid one at that, he opened the door with a quick click of the key and ingressed graciously, God it felt good to be home, even though he’d only been away for not even a week it had seemed like forever. Shawn was truly amazed at how homesick he had gotten but he’d missed Belle and his family even more. After discarding his things and soaking the now slightly iced over red roses in water Shawn caught something out of the corner of his eye; faintly making out two despondent figures laying peacefully on the couch. There was Rex, sound asleep with Mimi wrapped possessively in his arms, the soothing glow of the television illumining their exhausted frames. A glass of water sat diligently along side a large coffee table that outstretched the reach of the black leather couch they now resided on. Must have been the headaches Shawn thought sadly, eyeing a bottle of ibuprofen next to the water, they did their toll and knocked Rex out instantly. Poor Mimi always left to pick up the pieces; faking Cassie’s death wasn’t helping at all, if any making it worse…a lot worse. The headaches where coming a lot more frequent after the recent chain of murders, they were getting more illusive as well, causing Rex to become a lot more violent. Shawn sighed it was after midnight but he didn’t have the heart to wake them although they’d probably be more comfortable in bed it would run the unnecessary risk of another headache. Walking swiftly to a near by closest Shawn withdrew a large fuzzy, checker printed blanket in which he draped over their shoulders before existing the apartment in search of Belle. Hopefully Rex would be feeling better by tomorrow, if not and this was a direct onset reaction from the murders, Shawn would have to talk with Murdock about flying him out to stay with Cassie until this whole mess was resolved. However something told him that Ryan wouldn’t like that solution one bit.
The faint pounding of Shawn’s persuasive fist could be heard, smoothly stroking its way along the large oak frame of battered wood leading to the loft that Belle and Mimi now shared.
“Belle?” he called softly, identifying himself for he knew how cautious she could be, do to the recent chain of events. However to no avail a reply couldn’t be heard only silence. Shrugging plaintively Shawn withdrew a key from the depths of his pocket before sliding it threw the minute hole leading into the dimly lit loft, a sure sign that Belle had called it a night.
As he entered her bed chamber, Shawn grinned wildly devouring the sultry sent as he approached her motionless form. Depositing the vase of roses on a near by table then setting himself down on the bed and embracing her into a long bear hug.
“God I missed you” his thick husky voice growled pleasantly before enveloping her in a passionate kiss. And so they stayed there, in each others arms till far after the first gallant rays of dawn impinged upon their sleeping forms, for once at peace with the world glad to have one another.
Safe House Los Angeles- The next morning
“Sure is beautiful here…” Jack commented sadly staring off into the skyline on the other side of the continent.
“You have know idea how much Jennifer and Abby would love this, the beach, the sun; but nothing is paradise when their not with me, no matter how spectacular.”
“I’m sorry Jack really I am” Ryan stated as he tried to contemplate what it must be like to be put in a position where everyone you’ve ever known believes that your dead including your wife and daughter. However his thought’s interrupted by the unmistakeable sound of his wife to be laughing happily while conversing with Tony Dimera the man she had thought to be her father some time ago. He seemed equally as blissful which amazed no… stunned Ryan; everyone seemed to be getting along no matter if they were Brady or Dimera, the tension was gone but how long was that going to last when they were finally able to return to Salem.
“So your getting married hunh?” Tony held Cassie close as they strolled down the sand, while watching the thundering waves tumble, each one more glorious then the next. Even if biologically they weren’t related they were still family and she was still his little girl.
“He’d better be good to you, and treat you with the respect you deserve!”
“Don’t worry, Ryan’s the best and I love him! Believe me he’d never do anything to hurt me.”
“He’d better not!” Tony snapped half jokingly “For then he’d feel the true wrath of the Dimera legacy.”
CIA Headquarters- Counter Terrorism Division
“So do we have a lock on the location of the virus?” barked Murdock is his strong authoritative manner,
“Nothing yet sir but we do have conformation that Michelle Amador is indeed in Salem, where or when he’s going to unleash it, still undetermined.”
“Call Agent Brady give’em a heads up, and I want all resources dedicated to finding this thing, it’ll by our heads on this, if the virus is released!”
Salem
“Rex…Rex” Mimi called worriedly as she watched him thrash violently, still held captive to a drug induced languor. But her cries impeded to no avail with a headache at full force dominating his sub-consciousness. He lay there helpless to the pain ripping threw his entire body, now drenched in his own perspiration. Fever flaring within, forcing his mind to drift back to the day he found his sister’s hiemal lifeless body on the cold abhorrent pavement of Salem Place.
“Cassie…” he muttered sadly in almost a monotone along with some other phrases not audible enough for Mimi’s ears to pick up. She knew now it was alright to comfort him before the headaches provoked yet another violent outbreak. Hugging him tightly she slowly rocked him back and forth, instinctively keeping the same rhythmic motion each time while humming soothingly.
“It’s okay; I’m here for you she called.” Just praying the headache would run it’s course and that would be the end of it for good, however knowing that was never the case.
Hope you liked it I’ll be able to write a lot more often now that I’m off for Easter break!
